Press Release Regarding The 14th Meeting Of The Reform Monitorung Group (rmg) , 27.01.2009
The 14th meeting of the Reform Monitoring Group (RMG) was held upon the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Babacan on 26 September 2009 with the participation of Minister of State and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bağış, Minister of Justice Mehmet Ali Şahin and Minister of Interior Beşir Atalay.
The mandate of the RMG is working on political reforms, which is also a priority on the agenda of our Government. RMG, which convened for the first time on 18 September 2003, directs and monitors at highest level comprehensive legislative work that aims to strengthen and guarantee regulations in the areas of democracy, rule of law and fundamental rights and freedoms and their effective implementation.
In this regard, at the meeting of 26 January, further steps that need to be taken in the short and medium terms mainly in order to provide better living standards for our citizens were discussed. In line with the agenda of the meeting, issues that must be addressed with priority and the general situation regarding political criteria were discussed in the light of our new National Program and our EU accession process.
The RMG will continue to follow closely the reform efforts as has been the case since its establishment, and effectively provide the necessary direction to all of our public institutions with its decisions. During the meeting of 26 January, the RMG also decided to convene more frequently.
