Press Release Regarding The Allegations Published On “horizon Weekly” On October 10, 2014
The Embassy of the Republic of Turkey categorically rejects the baseless allegations raised by the Armenian National Council of Canada and Canadian MP Harold Albrecht published in Horizon Weekly on October 10, 2014 claiming that the ISIL militants who destroyed Armenian Church in Deir ez-Zor crossed to Syria with Turkey’s assistance as well as the repetition of the usual unfounded claims on the events of 1915.
ISIL and groups affiliated with Al Qaeda or other radical organizations constitute a direct threat to Turkey’s national security. Turkey has suffered extensively from the scourge of terrorism. It has been and is still the target of other terrorist organizations. Turkey has been taking all necessary measures to prevent third country nationals from travelling to Syria to join radical groups. Turkey has also been coping with the threats and attacks from ISIL to its territory.
Turkey’s sensitivity is not exclusively limited to a certain region or group in Syria as suggested in MP Albrecht’s statement. From the outset, Turkey has approached the Syrian crisis from a principled humanitarian aspect which strives to reach all regardless of their ethnic, religious and sectarian origins. We help all ethnic, religious and sectarian groups in the region regardless of whether they are Arab, Kurdish, Turkmen, Yezidi, Shi’ite, Sunni, Nusayri, Christian or Jewish.
In addition, Turkey has consistently condemned all attacks against all religious sites in Syria and Iraq from the very beginning of crisis without any discrimination.
The allegation raised in “Horizon Weekly” does injustice to the burden borne by Turkey who is hosting more than 1,5 million Syrians. It disregards the measures taken by Turkey against the threat of extremism. It also ignores the fact that Turkish Consulate General in Mosul raided by ISIL and 46 staff including the Consul General and diplomats were taken hostage more than 100 days in the hands of ISIL.
